I bought most of these wood beads at Hobby Lobby years ago but I didn't have enough for a rosary. So I just combined them with some other wood beads that I've had and came up with this all-wood bead rosary. I just happened to have six of the very light-colored beads, so I made those the Our Father beads. All of them are 8mm.
This is one of those rosaries where I changed things up a bit in the middle of building it. I had a cool recycled centerpiece and crucifix picked out, but at the last minute, the word "wood" just stood out for me, reminding me of the cross. So I switched it up to use this centerpiece, La Pieta, the famous image of Mary cradling the crucified body of her Son across her lap. I was fortunate to see the famous sculpture by Michaelangelo when I was in Rome in 2013. Since then, I've taken a liking to that image, including a small statue here on my desk. This sure seems like a rosary idea that should have happened during Lent. Since the centerpiece is a bit larger than most I use, I also chose this larger ornate crucifix.
Overall, this is certainly a rosary for Lent. But it also seems quite appropriate for meditating on the Sorrowful Mysteries.
