Occasionally I receive a rosary to be repaired, but my only option is to completely disassemble it and rebuild a new rosary. Such was the case here when I received this rosary from a woman in Holland, Michigan. The only issue was that it was held together with wire; I only work on chain rosaries. So I took this one apart and got to work. The challenge with such a conversion is to try to keep as much of the original rosary in tact as I can. I was able to reuse the metal caps on the Our Father beads as well as the tiny crystal beads also on either side of each of the Our Father beads. However, the original also had a single small metal flower between each of the Hail Mary beads, something that just doesn't work well on a chain rosary. So I rebuilt it, using all original parts. It has 8mm Hail Mary beads and 10mm Our Father beads. The matching crucifix and centerpiece are a bronze color.
While a conversion like this won't look exactly like the original, this one turned out quite nice. I love the old school look and feel of this one. And now that it's rebuilt, it's all set for many more decades to come.
